Insulin glargine is an injectable medication used in cats, dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs, and horses with diabetes mellitus. It is used to lower blood sugar levels and for long-term maintenance therapy of diabetes mellitus. Monitor closely for signs of low blood sugar (weakness, lack of energy, lethargy, stumbling or difficulty walking, behavior changes, muscle twitching, seizures, and/or unresponsive).

Itraconazole ophthalmic is a topical antifungal used to treat fungal eye infections (fungal keratitis) in horses, dogs, and other animals. This medication is used off label in veterinary medicine. Itraconazole ophthalmic comes in liquid drop suspension form that must be specially compounded.

Kaolin + pectin (brand names: Kaopectolin®, Kao-Pec®, KaoPect®, Kao-Pront®, Kaogel®) is a gastrointestinal protectant that is used to treat diarrhea and certain toxicities in cats, dogs, horses, birds, ferrets and other small mammals.

Ketoprofen is given by mouth in the form of a capsule or tablet to treat pain and inflammation in dogs and horses. It’s use in animals is off label. Do not use this medication in pets that are allergic to it, or in pets concurrently using corticosteroids or other NSAIDs. If a negative reaction occurs, call your veterinary office.

Levetiracetam (brand names: Keppra®, Elepsia®, Spritam®) is used off label as an anticonvulsant used to treat seizures and epilepsy. In dogs, it is typically used in combination with other anticonvulsants, while in cats, it is used alone or in combination.

Lime sulfur topical is a leave-on agent used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm (dermatophytosis) and topical yeast infections (Malassezia dermatitis) in dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and horses. Lime sulfur topical can also be useful in the treatment of several species of skin and fur mites and lice.

Medroxyprogesterone acetate (brand names: Provera®, Meprogest®, Proclim®) is a progestin hormone used to treat sexually driven behavior problems in cats, such as male-male aggression, spraying, roaming, and mounting. In dogs, it has been used for conditions including certain dwarfisms, skin conditions, reproductive conditions, and behaviors.

Melatonin is given by mouth or as an implant under the skin and is used to treat sleep and behavior disorders, adrenal disease, and non-allergic hair loss, to suppress the heat cycle, and to improve breeding rates. Give as directed. Side effects are not common but may include sleepiness. Do not use in pets that are allergic to it. If a negative reaction occurs, please call your veterinary office.
